Not a Cop, Not a Crook; But a Lucrative Career In Pickpocketing
LAS VEGAS,
USA?The Tall Swede Journal
interviews Professor of Pickpocketry Bob Arno, at
his home in Las Vegas. Part one was printed in a previous issue.
Tall Swede Journal: Tell us about the political
aspects of pickpocketing?
Bob Arno: Simple question, complex answer! The
surge in pickpocketing is coupled to a political reality: Socialism in Europe
has improved the lot of the middle class, but there is still a small percentage
of poor. It is among these people we find the majority of pickpockets. It's as
if society and politicians have resigned to a status quo: we accept a 10%
unemployment rate. It goes with the acceptance of the business climate in the
year 2000. Global competition and the threat of cheaper goods from the Far East
tie the hands of politicians, labor reps, and CEOs in Europe.

Serious Entertainment
An Oxymoron?
No, a Sliding Scale
Special to the Tall Swede Journal
Crime--it's not a laughing matter. Or is it?
When Bob Arno is the speaker, audiences laugh and learn. Arno's years as an
entertainer have taught him the importance of comedy, movement, and human
interest; he utilizes all these in his lecture, The Serious Side of Stealing.
A sliding scale describes Arno's flexible options.
Clients appreciate the ability to customize his presentation from completely
serious to all entertainment. Actually though, he rarely does either. He is
usually requested to blend the two,
injecting fun into his educational lecture,
or a usable "take-home" content into his comedy show. Both work marvelously well.
After dinner or after breakfast? Again, boundaries are
blurred. The Gentleman Thief often prowls the evening affairs while the
Professor of Pickpocketry reigns at power breakfasts and luncheons.
Personal security and risk assessment are key phrases
among today's business travelers. Knowledge is their first line of defense. Bob
Arno delivers that and more. He puts it all in perspective with lightness and
humor, and sensitivity to the fun and necessity of international travel.
